[00:02:10] Speaker B: Wow. This food festival is so amazing. There are so many types of food here. [00:02:17] Speaker A: I know, right? The atmosphere is so lively. I've never seen so many people gather in one place just to eat. [00:02:24] Speaker B: And the food is such a treat. I've had such delicious food today. I've tried the best grilled cheese sandwich. [00:02:32] Speaker A: Okay. I'm glad you like it. I think this barbecue stall is also so good. I might even come back tomorrow. [00:02:40] Speaker B: Really? You're going to eat the same thing again? [00:02:44] Speaker A: Yes. Ali. The food is so flavorful. I love the smoky taste. And I can't believe I've never tried this before. [00:02:53] Speaker B: It's funny. We had been looking for a good food festival for so long and we finally found that such a perfect fit for us. [00:03:02] Speaker A: I know. And I was surprised by how affordable the food is considering the quality. [00:03:08] Speaker B: Totally. It's so reasonable. And they have such wide variety, it's almost hard to choose. [00:03:16] Speaker A: It's also amazing how they are using local ingredients from the area. It makes it such a special experience to taste the local flavors. [00:03:24] Speaker B: That's true. I've also been thinking about how this event is so important to promoting sustainable food. The vendors here are so passionate about it. [00:03:36] Speaker A: Okay, so. So let us break down what we just use and the dialogue. So and such. And these are intensifiers we use to express very or extremely. So let us. Let us start an inaction. The first one. [00:03:59] Speaker B: Yeah. So first let's talk about so we use so to intensify adjectives and adverbs. The structure is so plus adjective. And adverb or adverb. For example, this food festival is so amazing. Or the food is so flavorful in both examples, so emphasizes how amazing or flavorful the food is. [00:04:30] Speaker A: That's right. Exactly. Let us now talk about how to use such. Well, we use such to intensify noun phrases. Okay, so for adjectives, adverbs, such to intensify noun. So the structure, as you can see, is such plus the article A plus adjective and plus noun. So, for example, the grilled cheese sandwich was such such a treat or it was such a perfect fit. So here such emphasizes how much of a treat and how perfect the fit was. [00:05:14] Speaker B: Both so and such are used to give us more emphasis on the things we describe. However, there is a small difference in how we use them. So he's used with adjectives and adverbs, while such is used with noun phrases. [00:05:31] Speaker A: Good. So let's take another example. The barbecue was so good. Here. What. What are we intensifying? Well, we're intensifying the adjective good. [00:05:43] Speaker B: Okay, and now let's give an example with such. The barbecue was such a good meal. Now, what are we anti. Intensifying. The noun phrase good meal. [00:05:56] Speaker A: That's right. So another important thing to note is that so and such can also be used to express cause and effect. You can see two examples in our slide. For example, the festival was so crowded that we could hardly move. Or it was such a great experience that we can't wait for for the next year. [00:06:22] Speaker B: That's it. So we use so plus adjective, adverb, and then that or such plus an adjective plus a noun, and then that to show cause and effect. Let's give another example. It was so hot that I couldn't stay outside. Or it was such a great meal that we had to go back to go back for more. [00:06:50] Speaker A: Very good. Fantastic. So just to show the difference. Right. We wouldn't say it was such hot. No, you don't use such with an adjective. Okay, so you have to use so it was so hot. Neither would you say it was so a great meal. No, not so a great meal. Just to use the article A and then the adjective and not the noun. You need such. Okay, well, let us go to the question, to the audience and let us have a look on your understanding of so and such. This festival is so amazing that I can wait for it to start. Or this festival is such amazing that I can't wait for it to start. What about this one? This festival is so great that I can't wait for it to start. [00:08:12] Speaker B: And I'm sure our listeners will catch the good one. Food festivals are a brilliant way to explore new tastes, experience different cultures, enjoy food in a fun and lively atmosphere. And today we will focus on some amazing food festivals happening both in the UK and also in the usa. So there is something for everyone from local specialities to international cuisine. [00:09:52] Speaker B: Absolutely. In the UK we've got a great selection of food festivals throughout the summer. One of the most popular is the Arbor Gave Niful Festival, which takes place in Monmouth Shire this year. It's happening on the 20th to the 21st of September. The festival celebrates everything from local food producers to international street food and it brings together food lovers from all over. It's such a fantastic way to taste new things and celebrate the best of Welsh cuisine. [00:10:30] Speaker A: That sounds incredible, Aline. And if you head over to Shru Fire, you can check out the Ludlow Festival. The Ludlow Food Festival this one's a must visit for foodies. It's one of the oldest food festivals in the UK and showcases the best of local and regional produce. There are also cookery demonstrations, food stalls and even live music. So it's such a great event to spend a weekend enjoying the beautiful countryside and sampling food from some of the UK's best chefs. [00:11:07] Speaker B: Another one that's worth mentioning is the Aldenberg Food and Drink Festival in Suffol. This festival focuses on local seafood and sustainable food practices. You can enjoy the free precious fish from the area, including local oyster and fish and chips of course, while listening to talks from food experts. The vibe there is so relaxed and it's a perfect festival for those who love to enjoy food with a view of the sea. [00:11:37] Speaker A: Fantastic. So let's move to Ireland. The West Cork Food Festival is another great one to check out. This festival is famous for its local delicacies, including Irish cheeses seafood and meats. It's such a fantastic opportunity to try a traditional Irish food while experiencing the stunning scenery of West Cork. The festival usually features workshops, tastings and cookery lessons led by top chefs so you can really get hands on with the food. [00:12:09] Speaker B: And in the US there is no better festival for seafood lovers than the Maine Lobster Festival. Held every year in Rockland, Maine. This festival celebrates the famous Maine lobster. There's nothing like having fresh lobsters straight from the ocean. And the festival offers plenty of family friendly activities, cooking contests and live entertainment. It's such a fun event to attend, especially if you love seafood. [00:12:39] Speaker A: Wow Aline, there's so many amazing food festivals there this summer. These festivals are a perfect way to enjoy not just delicious food, but also the culture traditions behind it. So whether you're a fan of street food, fine dining or simply enjoying local ingredients, I think these festivals offer a little bit of everything. [00:13:00] Speaker B: Exactly. And what's great is that most of these festivals emphasize sustainability, local sourcing and supporting small producers. It's a fun and educational way to enjoy full food while all learning about food culture. It's also a great way to practice your English as many of these festivals have food tours, workshops and cooking demonstrations in English. [00:13:28] Speaker A: Yes, attending food festivals in the UK or if you travel to the US is a perfect way to learn about the culture and practice speaking in a real life situations. So it's a great opportunity to meet people, try new dishes and have fun with friends or family. So food festivals are so much more than just eating. They're about connecting with people and places. [00:13:52] Speaker B: I couldn't agree more. And don't forget that food festivals are such an exciting part of the summer. Bringing communities together to celebrate food. Whether it's beer or lobster, there's always something new to try and the experience is always so memorable. [00:14:09] Speaker A: Yes, that makes them such great events to attend. So I hope this episode has inspired you to check out some of these amazing food festivals this summer. Summer is still going on. So remember we mentioned some of this food festivals in September. So if you're thinking to travel maybe to Ireland, to the UK or to the usa, maybe can just go and try. So maybe we'll even see you at one of them. [00:14:39] Speaker B: Who knows? [00:14:40] Speaker A: Okay. Food stalls a festival. Fantastic. [00:15:07] Speaker B: The correct answer is this festival is so amazing that I can't wait for it to start. [00:15:14] Speaker A: Great job. So we use so to intensify the adjective amazing, showing how incredible the festival is. Who says so or such in a sentence about an event you're excited about. Could be a food festival or any other event that maybe you are thinking to go this summer. [00:15:45] Speaker B: We'd love to see your answers in the comments below. [00:15:48] Speaker A: Yeah.
